[--] place there are three distinct [schools] In the lower part of the building which opens towards the Cowgate is usually called the Cowgate School Mr. Anderson is principal teacher having eight assistants under [him] this school has also a female assistant for teaching sewing. This school is attended by [--] 400 scholars. Another school is taught by J Ritchie with 5 assistants is attended by 320 scholars, The upper storey of the building is the [--] School taught by a school mistress and one [assistant] attended by about 150 children |
