063 | [Situation] In Dornock Grave - yard. Two stones about 7 feet long, and of a triangular shape - each side being about 2 feet. "New Statistical Account page 257" - "There may be seen in the churchyard two stones of a singular shape, resting on blocks of the same material, which are supposed to contain the ashes of the commanders of the English army" The battle where the above commanders lost their lives is said to have been at Sword Well - but the date is unKnown. From the hieroglyphics on two sides, of each of the above stones, they appear to be of far more ancient date, than the battle referred to above. The stones are at present lying on the ground, and are not "resting on blocks of the same material" as stated above. |
