058 | [Situation] On the west bank of Kirtle water, - near the Nn [Northern] point of the detached part of Dornock This is one of the Towers that were erected in feudal times by the then Proprietors for the purpose of defending themselves from the Border Theives. There has been Some large additions made on the South east, and on South West Sides of the Ancient building. So it is now a spacious building, having extensive offices including the offices belonging to the home farm which are about a half a mile to the South of the mansion, all are in good repair, There is a garden, Some pleasure Grounds and an extensive arable farm attached. It occupies a fine position for defence having a steep cliff on its north east side, and a deep glen on its north West side, the other Sides Could easily be defended by a ditch |
