All the authorities here seem to be at fault and probably have made a corruption of two Scotch words Birssy and Wala or Wale', which signifies a rough vale or pasture. - The features of the ground even at the present time greatly favor the supposition that Birssywala is the original & correct spelling - many rough pastures or patches still existing in the vicinity of this farm even in the face of agricultural improvements [Initialled] |
