055 | [Situation] About 1 Mile S.S.E. [South South East] of the Town of Dumfries - or 41 chains N.N.E. [North North East] of Kingholm Quay village.- A large building 3 And 4 Storeys high, built of red Sandstone.- It was erected about 13 years ago, the fund appropriated to the building of it was a bequest of upwards of £100,000 by the late Dr. Crichton of Friar Carse. The Institution was originally designed to be An university It is a large and Commodious Asylum for Lunatics And As Such was incorporated by Act of Parliament The building to which the above name particularly Applies was - Since the Completion of the Southern Counties Asylum - appropriated to patients who pay for their Accommodation Rates of Board paid varies from £30 to £350 per Annum, the affairs managed by Trustees and a Board of Directors .- The resident Officers Are a Physician, a Treasurer a Matron a Medical Assistant And house Steward. This department is Capable of Accommodating 120 patients.- |
