The upper floor is used for public meetings &c; the lower or ground floor, as the female department of the parochial school. It is the property of G. Baird Esqr. Strichen Ho. [House] "Strichen Town - House. To an oblong building of two storeys with embattled coping, it adds, at the west gable, a square embattled tower, the corners of which support flat headed turrets. The square of the tower is surmounted by an octagonal lanthorn, also embattled, and from this rises the elegant spire, with an embattled belt halfway up. This smart edifice was built in 1816 at the expense of Mrs Fraser of Strichen - the cost being about £2000." Description of Formartine and Buchan Railway &c. |
