064 ; 065 ; 073 ; 074 | The parish of Skene in the County of Aberdeen, is in the Presbytery and Synod of Aberdeen. Patron the Earl of Fife. It contains about 10499 Statute Acres, and is bounded on the north by the parish of Kintore; on the east by the parishes of Kinellar and Newhills; on the south and south east by the parish of Peterculter; and on the west by the parishes of Echt, Cluny, and Kemnay. The surface of the parish is prevailingly rocky and broken, and, in the northern district is hilly and bleak. The Soil subject to the plough, though predominantly gravel, is exceedingly various in both composition and fertility. There are no detached portions of this parish nor are there any detached portions of another parish situated within it. A very small portion of "Aberdeen Town Freedom Lands" is in this parish; it contains one acre two chains which is included in the area of the parish. |

Note- It is mentioned in the Statistical Account of Aberdeenshire C. 1098 that a Roman road passed through this Parish, near the line of which Roman urns, a Roman sword and the points of two spears were found. Respecting there the Examiner writes "The site of these findings is not known now; the late owner of Kirkville & William Knowles Esq. appears to have been the only person who could have supplied the information. They are "not in the possession of the proprietor of Kirkville"- as stated in Stat. Ac. [Statistical Account] - "and no knowledge of their whereabouts known." Referring to the road he writes "A Roman Track - not a regular Road - appears passing through this Parish on various maps, but all real knowledge of its whereabouts is lost - every enquiry has been made".
