In the north-west corner of this Lane joining the Longate, there formerly stood an old house which is now rebuilt, in which the Chevalier resided. "It was here that the Pretender first landed, on the 25th day of December 1715, and resided for sometime (in that old house, South-end of the Longate, presently belonging to Mr James Annand) visiting, and being visited privately by his allies, Earl Marischal etc. previously to his leaving it for Aberdeen."
