023 | "There was also built on the Southermost part of Keith-Inch, a Castle, by George Earl Marischal, in the beginning of the Sixteenth Century, and from a model of the palace of the King of Denmark. Since it began to decay, and till of late years, it was used as a granary and storehouse, but owing to it's decayed and ruinous state, it was thought expedient to pull it down, and it's place is supplied by boilyards for oil, and magazines for the accommodation of the different Greenland fishing Companies which are now in a very flourishing state" vide Buchan's Annals of Peterhead 1819, page 12. In Pratt's Buchan page 58 it is stated that this Castle was, "built by George, Earl Marischal, in the beginning of the Seventeenth Century," and "It was pulled down in the early part of the present Century, and it's site is now occupied by the Watch-house and other buildings belonging to the Coast-guard". The Lifeboat-house is believed to be part of this old Castle, and from the appearance, and thickness of the walls, this would seem to be quite correct. |

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
