Broadiach
When I suggested the change in the spelling
of this name, I did not know the subject had
been under consideration. My reasons for
preferring Brodiach were - that this is the spelling
in the Poll Book - that it is so given in the Val [Valuation]
Roll of Skene & Newhills, though different properties
- that Brod is prond. [pronounced] short, which is important -
that it is a purely Gaelic name - & that according
to local usage it is prond. [pronounced] Bro-deeach.
In Skene are Broadshade, Broadtree,
Broadstraik & Broadwater, all close to
Brodiach, & it is very natural for country
people to suppose that the spelling must be
alike in every case.
I think Broadford is near to Little
Brodiach in Newhills parish, but am not
absolutely certain.
For these reasons I still think Brodiach
is right.

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
