| SWORD FOUND [Millfield] | Sword found Sword found |
James Leith Esq Millfield Mr Smith, Thornhill |
012 | A Sword was found at the place indicated on trace about a century ago. The point of it - made into a Knife is now used by the Miller of Millfield for trimming Sacks. "The wild heath seems to wave over the grave of many a long forgotten hero, on those fields where contending barons tried the Keenness of their Swords. Some of the Covenanters, cut off by the Ogilvies, have given a name (Findlays Mire) to those spots where they fell, and some heads of spears, of a yellow colour and of the form most approved when the Scottish spear was almost as tremendous a weapon as the English bow, were lately found in an exhausted moss." Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
