052 ; 053 ; 063 | A parish in the district of the Garioch Aberdeenshire, bounded on the north by Leslie and Premnay, on the east by Oyne and Monymusk, on the south by Tough, and on the west by Tullynessle. The river Don forms its boundary for a short distance on the southwest and afterwards belongs to the parish until it divides Oyne and Monymusk. There is no village in the parish bearing a distinctive name, but clustered close to the farm of Wealthiton, is a merchant's shop, the parochial and a female School, and a few dwelling houses; while nearly directly north on the summit of a hill stands what is usually spoken of as Keig, consisting of the Established church and Manse &c. The parish generally slopes southward and is well cultivated, and contains extensive woods, particularly about Castle Forbes. Its antiquities are remarkable, consisting of two stone circles and an immense *Cairn called the Barmykin. As usual great quantities of Flint Arrowheads, Stone Axes &c have been found in the district *The name "Barmkyn" refers to the enclosure, & not to the cairn within it [Initialled] EHC Capt R.E.
