MATHER'S SCHOOL [Continued from page 29]
"Trustees have established a School in the Village for the education of these
twenty poor children" (New Stat Act [Statistical Account] P. [Page] 701.)

The School above mentioned was erected some years ago and is well known as
"Mather's School", it is attended by Boys and Girls, who are taught the usual branches
Common in Country Schools, and the Girls have to attend the Sewing School 2 Hours daily
the Mistress of which receives £8 yearly from the Mather Fund. The Heritors of the district
also subscribe £11 yearly towards the Schoolmaster's salary, which is made up from
this, part of the Mather Fund, the Scholars' fees, and Government grant.
