Special Commission of Oyer and Terminer

This Special Commission of Oyer and Terminer of 1820 was set up specifically for the trials of persons accused of complicity in the Radical uprising of 1820. It was conducted under English law by judges appointed by the commission. Under the Treason Act 1708, the Crown had authority to issue commissions of oyer and terminer in Scotland for the trial of treason. Such commissions had to include three Lords of Justiciary.
