In presence of the Earle of Cassillis one of the Comires [Commissioners] of Thery [Thesaury]
Compeared David Craufurd of Drumsure subCollr [subCollector] of the
Hearth-money within the shire of Air, who being solemnly
sworn & examined, declared. That the forsd [forsaid] List of Hearths
Extending to Four thousand, Nyn hundred & Four Hearths, qch [quhich]
are payed. And Seven hundred Nynty one qch [quhich] are unpayed Is
a just & true List of all the Hearths within the forsd [forsaid] shire
to the best of his knowledge Conform to subscribed lists given
in to him be his substitutes, Excepting the hearths of poor
people exeemed by Law; and ane paroch within the Jurisdic-
-tion [Jurisdiction] of the sd [said] shire, which is not here sett doun. In respect
he hes it not here at [ret] [receipt]. And that he hes used his outmost
endeavours Conform to proclamation of Councell to attaine to the
knowledge of all the hearths within the forsd [forsaid] shire, and hes not wittingly
nor willingly concealed any bot given up the samen truly as sd [said] is.

This volume contains lists of householders in 1694 liable for the hearth tax in the division of Ayrshire know as Kyle. There are lists for the burgh of Ayr and the parishes of Ayr, Galston and Riccarton, Auchinleck, Mauchline, Sorn (Dalgaine), Ochiltree, Old and New Cumnock, Dundonald, Coylton, and Dalrymple.
Scottish Exchequer (Tax Records)
The Scottish Exchequer, and subsequently the Court of Exchequer, were concerned with the accounting of collected taxes in Scotland. These taxes include the Carriage tax (1785-1798), Cart tax (1785-1798), Clock and watch tax (1797-1798), Dog tax (1797-1798), Farm horse tax (1797-1798), Servant tax (1777-1798), Hearth tax (1691-1695), Horse tax (1785-1798), Inhabited house tax (1778-1798), Land tax (1645-1831), Poll tax (1694-1698), Shop tax (1785-1789), Window tax (1748-1798). Following the Consolidating Acts (38 Geo. III cap. 40 and 41), the duties on windows, inhabited houses, male servants, carts, carriages and dogs were incorporated in Consolidated Schedules of Assessed Taxes (1798-1799).
