Edinburgh the : 16th : day of Febry : 1694 : [16 Feb 1694]
In presence of John Earle of Tweeddale Lord high Chauncellor
Compeared John Craig subColltr [subCollector] of the Hearth money
within the Walls of the Citty of Edinburgh, who being
sworn & Examined declared, That the forsaid List of Hearths
Extending to the Number of Nyn thousand Fyve hundred
sixty four which are payed; and two thousand one hundred
sixty fyve, which are unpayed; and three hundred Nynty Six
Hearths of poors, are all the hearths within the six parochins
of Edinburgh, lyeing within the Walls of the sd [said] Citty
Excepting the Hearths of the Mint-house, Guards
Colledge of Edinburgh & Castle thereof; and some houses
he could not have accesse unto; And Myln's Square at the
weigh-house, which wanted the Rooffe. And that he used
his outmost endeavour, Conform to the Councells proclamations
for Ingathering of the Hearth-Money; To attaine to the Knowledge
of all the hearths within the sds [saids] Bounds: And that he hes not
wittingly or willingly concealed any hearths, but given up the
samen truely as said is. And this is the truth as he shall
answere to God.

This volume contains a list of householders liable for hearth tax in parishes within the city walls of Edinburgh in 1691.
Scottish Exchequer (Tax Records)
The Scottish Exchequer, and subsequently the Court of Exchequer, were concerned with the accounting of collected taxes in Scotland. These taxes include the Carriage tax (1785-1798), Cart tax (1785-1798), Clock and watch tax (1797-1798), Dog tax (1797-1798), Farm horse tax (1797-1798), Servant tax (1777-1798), Hearth tax (1691-1695), Horse tax (1785-1798), Inhabited house tax (1778-1798), Land tax (1645-1831), Poll tax (1694-1698), Shop tax (1785-1789), Window tax (1748-1798). Following the Consolidating Acts (38 Geo. III cap. 40 and 41), the duties on windows, inhabited houses, male servants, carts, carriages and dogs were incorporated in Consolidated Schedules of Assessed Taxes (1798-1799).
