This Book consisting of this and the Seventy Seven preceding Pages Contains An Authentick Roll of Valuation of all Lands Hereditaments and Teinds within the Shire of Argyll (Comprehending the Divisions of Cowall, Argyll, Kintyre, Ilay, Lorn and Mull) made up and perfected pursuant to ane Act of Parliament made in the Twenty second year of the Reign of His Majesty King George the second Intituled An Act for making an Authentick Roll of Valuation for the Shire of Argyll By the persons after named Commissioners Constituted and appointed for that effect by the said Act of Parliament and who had before making the said Roll duly qualified themselves in manner therby directed Vizt John Campbell of Barcaldine, Donald Campbell of Airds, Neal McNeal of Ugadil, Archibald Campbell of Knockbuy, Alexander McMillan of Dunmore, Archibald Campbell of Melford, Archibald Campbell of Inverliver, Hector McLean of Torloisk, Neil Campbell of Duntroon, Archibald Campbell of Dunoon, Colin Campbell of Skipnige, Archibald Campbell of Stonfield and Archibald Campbell of Jura Which Valued Rent after allowing and making all Just and proper Deductions Extends to the Sum of Twelve thousand four hundred sixty six pounds five Shillings and ten pence Sterling money Of which Roll there are three Duplicats made up and Subscribed by them as directed by the said Act. The one therof to be Lodged with the Treasurers Remembrancer of His Majestys Court of Exchequer in Scotland The other to be Recorded in the Sheriff Court Books of Argyll and the third to be delivered to the Clerk of the Commissioners of Supply of the said Shire In testimony wherof these presents and each of the said Seventy Seven Pages are Subscribed by the Commissioners above Named and by John Campbell Shff Clk [Sheriff Clerk] of Argyll Qm [Quhom] they had Elected Clerk to the said Valuation At Inveraray the thirtieth day of Aprile One thousand Seven hundred and fifty one Years. Scottish Exchequer (Tax Records)

The Scottish Exchequer, and subsequently the Court of Exchequer, were concerned with the accounting of collected taxes in Scotland. These taxes include the Carriage tax (1785-1798), Cart tax (1785-1798), Clock and watch tax (1797-1798), Dog tax (1797-1798), Farm horse tax (1797-1798), Servant tax (1777-1798), Hearth tax (1691-1695), Horse tax (1785-1798), Inhabited house tax (1778-1798), Land tax (1645-1831), Poll tax (1694-1698), Shop tax (1785-1789), Window tax (1748-1798). Following the Consolidating Acts (38 Geo. III cap. 40 and 41), the duties on windows, inhabited houses, male servants, carts, carriages and dogs were incorporated in Consolidated Schedules of Assessed Taxes (1798-1799).
