[Page] 12

Transcriber's notes

For the length of the page, the first letters of most lines are obscured. I have placed the missing letters, gleaned from past and previous lists containing the same people, in square brackets [], with the exception of the proprietors' names which have been written without brackets.

Dear Zabet,

Thank you for taking the time to check out all these names. I would suggest taking out the [ ] though as it stops the name being searchable (if you search for say Alexander McBean of Drummond it doesnt show up the one on this page due to the [ ]) If you could just leave the names in full i.e. Alexander, Angus etc. I would maybe suggest taking out 'Mr' or 'The' as we cannot really be sure that is what is in the gutter. Money can be left in the brackets or in full, as it can be compared with the money column. The volumes are often quite tightly bound and we lose the inside words. Shill and pds need expanded Shill [Shillings] pds [pounds] etc, as per our normal expansion guidelines.

The only other comment I would have is to put the Parish name on a line in the transcription, I've done these to show you. You use the small cross to hold and drag to its position then save.

I hope you are enjoying transcribing this handwriting, it can be challenging yet very satisfactory.

Kind Regards
The ScotlandsPlaces Team
Dear N E
I must admit I have grown fond of this handwriting, despite my initial horror at the prospect. To be on the safe side I type it in as I see it and then check the associated records in Vols. 2 & 4, which may be spelt differently but have the same general sound. Many thanks for all the help.
Regards
Zabet
