The Roll of the Rent of the ShirefDome of Elgine set doun be the Commissioners vnder subscryveand Appoynted for that effect be Act of the Estates of Parliament Holdin at Edinburgh the Fourth Day of August 1649 yeires [4 Aug 1649] Which Comissioners haueing mett at Alvas The Twantie fourt Day of August Last [24 Aug 1648] And haveing Judiciallie gevin their oathes to vse their best indevoures for a ryght and true Informatioune of the rents of the haill Shyre and to proceid faithfullie and impartiallie in prosequiteing their Commissioune and instructiounes relateing thrto [thereto] Which they have carefullie performed in every poynt Aftir serious and matur [mature] deliberatioune Have made and Set doune the Roll following in Articles according to the number of the severall paroschines within the said shyre and have cast vp the sowmes according to kthe directioune of the Parliament Compting ilk boll of wheit at vi li xvj s aught ds [£6.16.8] Ilk boll of beir and meill at four pund x s [£4.10.0] Ilk barrell of Salmond at xxiiij li [£24.0.0] ilk wedder at ane pund xiij s iiij ds [£1.13.4] and ilk Lamb at xx s [£1.0.0] money

This volume contains Land tax rolls - the following sheriffdoms: Inverness-shire, Nairnshire, Angus (Forfarshire), Banffshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, Sutherland, Morayshire, Berwickshire, and Fife, in 1649.

Scottish Exchequer (Tax Records)

The Scottish Exchequer, and subsequently the Court of Exchequer, were concerned with the accounting of collected taxes in Scotland. These taxes include the Carriage tax (1785-1798), Cart tax (1785-1798), Clock and watch tax (1797-1798), Dog tax (1797-1798), Farm horse tax (1797-1798), Servant tax (1777-1798), Hearth tax (1691-1695), Horse tax (1785-1798), Inhabited house tax (1778-1798), Land tax (1645-1831), Poll tax (1694-1698), Shop tax (1785-1789), Window tax (1748-1798). Following the Consolidating Acts (38 Geo. III cap. 40 and 41), the duties on windows, inhabited houses, male servants, carts, carriages and dogs were incorporated in Consolidated Schedules of Assessed Taxes (1798-1799).
