Kirk sessions are local church courts, the lowest church court in the presbyterian system of church government. Their role is to lead and govern congregations. The Church of Scotland became a presbyterian church during the Reformation in Scotland. The churches which broke away from the Church of Scotland after 1733 were also presbyterian. In the course of business, kirk sessions produce records documenting their meetings, decisions and transactions, which are normally hand-written.

Kilmacolm Church of Scotland kirk session

A church court that sat within the presbytery of Greenock and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr. The church was dedicated to St Columba and belonged to the Abbey of Paisley. Ministry is recorded from 1567.
