Caithness

A county in the north of Scotland.

Caithness presbytery

A Church of Scotland presbytery. It has its origins in a local church court erected some time between 1581 and 1593 in the synod of Sutherland. It was formally reconstituted a presbytery in 1697 under the synod of Orkney. It was moved to the synod of Ross in 1725, and to the synod of Sutherland and Caithness in 1726.

Sutherland and Caithness synod

A Church of Scotland synod. It was erected around 1640. The presbyteries of Orkney and Shetland were included in it from 1646 to 1725, when Orkney was disjoined, and 1715 when Shetland was severed. The seat of the synod was at Wick. Latterly it contained the presbyteries of Caithness, Dornoch and Tongue.
