Sanday (Small Isles)

An island in the Inner Hebrides, in the parish of Small Isles. The island was in that part of the parish in the county of Argyll until 1891. From 1891 onwards the entire parish was in the county of Inverness. Not to be confused with the island of Sanday (Orkney), or Sanda, in the county of Argyll.

Small Isles

A parish partly in the county of Argyll and partly in the county of Inverness. It was a quoad omnia parish (a parish for civil and religious purposes). In 1891 the Boundary Commissioners altered the boundaries of the parish and placed the entire parish in the county of Inverness.

Small Isles

A group of islands in the Hebrides, and a parish. Most of the islands in the group, including Canna, Sanday, Rum, Muck, Hyskier were in the county of Argyll until 1891. From 1891 onwards the entire parish was in the county of Inverness. They were sometimes known as Sma' Isles.
