Lewis and Harris

A group of islands in the Outer Hebrides. The main island of Lewis consists of Lewis on the north and Harris on the south. The island Lewis contained the parishes of Barvas, Lochs, Stornoway and Uig, all in the county of Ross and Cromarty, and the burgh of Stornoway. The south part of the island, Harris, was a parish in the county of Inverness. Lewis is sometimes known as Lews.
