022 | The Bay of Bowling is by some understood to extend from Dunglass in the west to near Erskine Ferry in the east, but upon the authority of Mr Lyall, the Bay is confined within the stone pier erected by the Trust & the Canal Co's [Company's] wooden pier, on the south. The Clyde Trusts western bounds of the pier to near Friskyhall, on one side & the Forth & Clyde Canal, on the other is upon the same authority the extent of the Bay east & west. There is a line across the Bay shewing the portion belonging to the Canal Co [Company]. The Canal Co [Company] has a wooden Light Ho [House] at the end of the wooden Pier. It is a permanent Light House. There are mooring Posts along the H.W. [High Water] mark of the Bay built into strong buttresses of masonery. |
