Valuation Roll W. Thomson Esqr. Pr. [Proprietor] J. Cochrane, Glenhead R. Buchanan Farmer Merkland |
025 | A superior Cottage on the lands of Merkland the property of Mr. William Thomson. There is a "Merkland House" near this (east, on the adjoining Trace 5. 25-5) and several smaller dwellings on the north side of the Road, which all bear the general name of "Merkland" from being on that property. The name has not been repeated to these small dwellings, as in reality they cannot be authorized as distinct from or worthy of any other name than what may be understood by "Merkland" being written to the better houses in the case of this Cottage, & to the house occupied by the Pr. [Proprietor]. |

Ordnance Survey - Dunbarton county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Dunbarton, which is in the west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
