Alloa is a town having a boundary for Police cleansing and lighting purposes, which the inhabitants erroneously designate a borough, There are several manufactories in the suburbs of Alloa, such as Woollen Mills , a Glass Work, Foundry etc., but neither of these employ a large number of hands, its principal support being derived from the surrounding Collieries. There is a Court House and Jail in the town, possessing very limited accomadation, in the former all the County business is transacted. There are four annual fairs in Alloa, which are held on the second wednesdays of February, May, August and November. |
