139 | A sea-port town on the north bank of the River Forth, and in the County of Clackmannan, it is very irregularly built, and the streets in the old part of the town are very narrow, and many of the buildings in a delapitated state. Alloa is the County town of the Shire in which it is situated, the privileges thereof having been transferred to it from the then town, but now village of Clackmannan many years since. Sheriff's Courts are held in it for the trial of prisoners for minor offences, together with a Small Debt Court, it is also the polling place for the County Member.
