039 | This chapel and Graveyard, are said to have Existed, the former - from tradition collected in the vicinity - up till the dawn of the reformation, and the latter till a much later period. A portion of it being still visible during the last century. The greater part of it was swept away, the Coffins having been seen Carried down to the Ba [Bay] by a great flood that tooK place, the "burn of Houstry" over flowing its banKs And submerging the Grave yard Carrying away the greater portion of it. Little of it was exposed to view after that. * * what of it remained was Completely eradicated by the extension of Cultivation, the remains of the chapel are liKely to have become part of other buildings of a modern date. The priests house as report hath it was situated on the rising Ground above the junction of the "Burn of Houstry and Dunbeath water" Such is the local account at the present day. |
