025 | A MarKet Town, Seaport, Royal and Parliamentary Burgh, situated on the Moray Firth at the head of WicK Bay. The town consists of three parts, WicK Proper, Louisburgh and Pulteneytown, Wick proper and a portion of louisburgh are embraced within the bounds of the Royal Burgh, WicK proper liKe old towns generally, is composed of a number of crooKed, narrow and irregularyl, built streets but it contains several handsome modern buildings among which may be noticed the Town & County Hall, the Commercial BanK, the Free Church &c. Louisburgh is an important suburb extending along the north banK of the River and is devoted almost entirely to the herring curing & fishing trade generally. Pulteneytown situated on the south side of the River is a handsome & modern suburb, regularly laid off into rectangular Streets with Argyle Square in the centre, a considerable portion of this suburb is also devoted to the herring curing trade, it contains several important public buildings such as the parish Church (Quoad Sacra), the Free Church (over) [Continued on Page 2] |
