004; 005 | The parish of Thurso is in the presbytery of Caithness, Synod of Sutherland and Caithness Patron Sir J.T. Sinclair Bt. [Baronet] M.P [Member of Parliament] of Ulbster; it is bounded on the north by the North sea, on the east by the parishes of Olrig and Bower on the South by the parish of Halkirk and on the West by the parish of Reay. The parish contains about 21690 Statute Acres and there is also a detached portion of the parish situated in Halkirk parish which contains about [6962] Statute Acres; there is no detached portion of any other parish situated within it. Thurso contains the important Sea Port. Market Town, & Burgh of Barony of the same name which is situated at the mouth of the River Thurso and is the principal seat of the pavement trade in Caithness; its surface rises gently from the shore and is throughout a slightly inclined place, interspersed with small eminences.
