[West North West] from Coast Guard Station A lofty Headland running abruptly into the sea, at the base of which is a fine cavern of considerable height and extent, having its roof covered with beautiful calcareous stalactitic incrustations and the entrance guarded by ranges of cliffs and isolated rocks, The junction of the old red sandstone with the greywater is here visible, but curiously dissected and laid open by the action of the waves, and nowhere in Scotland is there to be seen a more striking instance of unconformable junction, or one which more plainly attests the very different and distinct ages of the two formations, Extract from N.B.
