012.14 | A substantial Farmhouse, with extensions and a large Farm attached the property of Major Colin Campbell Renton of Mordington and tenanted by Mr. Elliot. It appears to be derived from a Saxon called Lambert, who here settling with his followers gave rise to the ton or village, about 30 years before the [Century?] On the site of the present farm house and offices Stood the Village Called Upper Lamberton, of which no trace remains. It was here that James IV of Scotland and [Margaret] daughter of Henry VII were Contracted in [Marriage] in the year 1503. "A very small portion of its ancient [... in] the Centre of a small Church-yard are [still] Standing. Its site is now used as a [burial ground] by the family of Renton of Mordington [House]. The ruins of this Church are situated [near] to the present Farm steading of Lamberton on the South Side of that rock known [...] Called [Dr...] in 1650 this Parish was attached to that of Mordington. |
