029 | A large river which rises in the parish of Tweedsmuir, near the point where the counties of Peebles, Dumfries and lanark meet. It runs nearly N.E. [North East] receiving many rivulets, till it reaches Peebles, where running nearly E. [East], its stream is augmented by those of the Etterick, near Selkirk, the Gala at Galashiels, The Leader near Melrose, and Teviot at Kelso. For many miles it forms the boundary between ngland and Scotland, until it falls into the German Ocean at Berwick-upon-Tweed. |
