007.10 | The principal village in the parish is a burgh of Barony, governed by a baron-bailie (The Earl of March). It has no town council nor magistrates. All Police charges are settled in Elgin. There are no markets for provisions and dairy produce; but eight fairs for the sale of cattle, sheep, and horses are held annually, by Royal Charter. The village is regularly built - near the centre is a large square, with a double row of trees intersecting it: upon this square a number of streets converge - in it there are four places of worship; Milne's Free School; a branch of the Union Bank of Scotland; one Hotel and three public houses; and it is well lighted with gas. There is also a Post Office and Post Office Savings Bank in the Village. The tenants are chiefly feuars under the Duke of Richmond. |

Ordnance Survey - Banff county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Banff, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
