004.12 | A Royal and Parliamentary Burgh, a Sea Port and a MarKet Town. It consists of two parts, the town proper and the Sea town, completely separated from each other by the Site of the Castle; It contains several places of worship, and Schools, a Court House, Jail, Hospital, Gas WorKs, Brewery, Foundry, one good Inn and Posting House, Baths, Coastguard Station, Patrol Ship and Shipbuiding yards, there are also Branches of six Banks, and a MarKet Place. In a commercial point of view Banff is insignificant, - as a Sea Port, unimportant; It contains a population of about 3600. The Parliamentary boundaries of this Burgh include the town of Macduff which contains an additional population of about 3000. The boundaries are described as follows. "From the Rocks on the West of the Town, called the Little Tumblers, in a straight line, drawn due South, to a point on the Gallow Hill, Eight hundred and fifty yards distant; thence in a Straight line to the point at which the Colleonard Road leaves the Sandyhills road; thence in a Straight line to the Bridge over the River Deveron.
