| Carmelite Monastery | Continued | (Mentioned as existing at the time of the last Statistical Account) have for several years been removed and given place to modern houses. Not far from the site of this, a small vaulted chamber, supposed to have been a sleeping cell, now affords accommodation to the boiler of a Steam engine employed at the foundry. Some arches, apparently parts of similar cells, yet exist behind the inn called the Royal Oak: and persons above till a late period remembered of there having been a continuous line of such cells between the two points now indistinct. This range of cells seems to have terminated the building of the monastery to the east, unless that an hospital, of which there is a tradition as existing about the site of the present bede house, may have formed one of its appurtenances The yards or garden ground of the monastery with its chapel and other dependencies, are supposed to have extended beyond the present southern limits of the town and as far as the small remnants of the "Lodging of the Earl of Airly in Duff House Kitchen garden" New Statistical Account No information can be obtained regarding the site of either the Hospital or the "Lodging of the Earl of Airly mentioned in the forgoing extract. |

Ordnance Survey - Banff county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Banff, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
