015.10 | Applies to the remains of the old parish church of St Fergus of which at present there is only a piece of the old walls remaining it is not known at what date the first church was erected but supposed to have been in the 11th Century "This parish was anciently named Inverugie, & often Longley, the church being situated not far from the old place of Inverugie, on those pleasant & extensive downs called the Link of St Fergus. The Church was removed from this site anno 1616, when the church & parish assumed the name of its patron saint, to whom the 17th Novr. [November] according to the Scotch callender was sacred". |
