| STIRLING CAIRN (Remains of) | Stirling Cairn (Remains of) | Revd Dr [Reverend Doctor] Todd, Alvah William Skene, Hill of Alvah Cottage Estate Plan. |
010.08 | The remains of what was evidently a large Cairn, situated near the edge of the wood on the East side of the Hill of Alvah. A quantity of the stones which composed it still remain, but the greater part have been removed for building purposes. Nothing authentic can be discovered of its history. On the Eastern brow of the Hill of Alvah is a large tumulus or cairn consisting chiefly of small stones and earth. It is of an elliptical form, covering an area of 20 falls, and in the centre rising to the height of 7 or 8 feet, but has never been sufficiently opened to disclose any remains of any antiquity. Ordnance Survey - Banff county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Banff, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
