The portion in the County of Elgin contains about 1588 statute acres, and is situated in the north-west of the parish; the remainder of the parish, which is situated in the county of Banff, contains about 47696 statute acres, herein stands both the parish church and the church of the Quoad Sacra parish of Achbrock, It has no detached portions in any other parish, neither are there detached portions of any other parish within its limits. "Most part of the parish consists of moor and mountain, giving the district a bleak aspect, except along the rivers, where the land is arable, and occasionally adorned with attractive and picturesque scenery. Much waste land, however, has been redeemed; particularly in Glenlivet. There is a considerable extent of oak wood on the banks of the Spey; and copses of birch and alder abound on the banks of the other streams." Fullarton's Gazetteer. |
