029.03 | "The house of Ballindalloch, the residence of the proprietor, and, it is said, one of the most perfect specimens extant of the old Scottish castle, may also be classed among the Antiquities of the parish. The large structure consists of a large square building flanked by three circular towers, - the centre one, which is the largest containing the ancient door and turnpike stair, surmounted by a square watch-tower termed the 'Cape House' with a window to each of the four sides, and an aperture in the wall immediately above the entrance so as to admit of boiling lead or other missiles being thrown down in the event of the enemy making good his approach. Over the chimney in one of the rooms is carved 1546. The Cape House seems to have been added in 1602 and about the beginning of last century a further addition was made of the two large commodious wings." See New Stat: Acc: [Statistical Account] |

Ordnance Survey - Banff county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Banff, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
