P., [Member of Parliament] It received its first charter in 1499, and another in 1592, It contains the Parish church & Manse Free church & Manse. Free Church & Manse. 4 schools. namely Parish school. Free church school, Smith's Academy. and a female school, There is a fair called All Hallow Fair for sheep and cattle held here on the last Wednesday of October, and the fourth Thursday of November, both old style. |
