036 | [Situation] 1ΒΌ miles SSE. [South South East] of the village of Drummore. A good farm house two stories high and out houses all slated & in good repair with a farm containing 165 acres of good land Occupied by Alexander McDowall the property of Col. [Colonel] McDowall of Logan. This place may have derived its name from the Virgin Mary. The Print of whose knee is fabulously reported to be seen on a Stone where she prayed on the Land on Maryport Bay it is also said that there was a chapel but no trace of it can be seen now to the north of the farm house is a Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Station called by Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Party Mary Port. |

In the Southern part of this Parish at the haven, called Maryport, there was formerly
a Chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary; but it was a complete ruin when Symson wrote his account
