029 | [Situation] About 2 Miles ENE [East North East] of Kirk of Mochrum A neat farm house one Story high and out houses including threshing Machine (of Horse power) all in good repair with a farm of arable land attached. Occupied by Alexander McCulloch. The property of Sir William Maxwell. Situate close to the NW [North West] Side of the house is the place where William McCulloch points out as being the site of Long Castle Church or Chapel. In cultivating this portion of grounds there was several curious Stones turned up, also fragments of Bones. Some of the Stones resemble head Stones, one of which Mr. McCulloch has placed in his Garden for a Seat. The portion of ground supposed to be the Site is doted round with yellow. Long Castle was formerly a small Parish, which probable give rise to the farm Kirkland of Long Castle. |
