020 | This ancient pile appears to have been a rectangular building of some strength a portion of walls which are now standing are three feet in thickness built with shell lime. until about 20 years ago it was used as the farm house but a new house having been erected. the old one was left to moulder away. according to a printed paper which i have been favored it is dated Castle Douglas 13th march 1841. it is said to have been built by archibald dunbar first laird of baldoon , about the year 1500 .20, brother to gavin dunbar prior of St Martins priory whithorn, 1514 afterwards |
