[United Presbyterian] Church, two Manses, and a collection of dwelling houses generally one storey high, in good repair and slated, with small gardens attached to each, and tenanted by families who are employed in the iron and coal mines situated in its Vicinity. The road from Linlithgow, Bo-Ness & Bathgate &c to Peebles passes through the Village. There is a subscription school here also, which is self supporting. Sir William Bailey & Mr Wilson Reveston are the principal proprietors. |
