Estate Map J. Begg Factor L. Cuthbert Gardener |
027.12 | This is the old Mansion House of Woodhead, which from its appearance & strength appears to have been a Tower house. The walls are nearly there original height - two floors above the ground, but, with the exception of the arched stone roofing of the ground floor, it is without a roof at the present time, & in a ruinous state. A stone spiral stair at the southwest angle leads to the top of the ground floor which is now formed into a small garden having a seat in one of the old window-sills. The walls are 8 links thick and entwined with ivy. There is nothing authentic as to the age of this house, known by the authorities quoted, but it is looked upon as an antiquity & presumed as such by the Proprietress Lady Strangford. |

Ordnance Survey - Stirling county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Stirling, which is in central Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
