023.02 ; 023.06 | A Small lake Situated on elevated table land, Nearly a Mile in length, by about one fourth mile wide, Said to be deep to the N.E. [North East] but Shallow to the west. "Loch Coulter is about 2 miles in Circumference, Shallow to the west but very deep to the N.E. [North East]. In 1755 it was greatly agitated, & it was then, it is supposed, that a large Stone, in weight about a ton, was raised from its bed & Carried towards the shore; the Cairn of StoCes with which it is Surrounded is generally covered with water."
