038.16; 038.03 | A heap of stones situated on the west side of the Holm of Sandwick. It is said to be the remains of an ancient circular building. Natives of 50 years of age and upwards, resident in Sandwick and Clett can remember when a wall of great strength & thickness stood round the margin of the present cairn to a height of about 6 feet, of this wall, however, there is now no trace. No conjecture is offered as to the original nature, use or purpose of this object. It is not beleived to have been a Brough, and it is distinctly stated never to have been used as a "Skeo" at any period. It is said to be an antiquity, but beyond what is here stated no information is obtainable. |
