012 | A circular artificial Hill or Mount, on the farm of High Castleton near Lainshaw, the following information respecting it was sent to me by Mr. MacKie Loudon Cottage. "The artificial Hill or Mount on Castleton Farm, in olden times was called the Law Hill or Law Mount and tradition says it here the Baron held his Courts and dispensed justice not only in questions between his rassals, but also on crimes commited within his jurisdiction, these mounds were also used for lighting watch fires to warn the district of an inroad. it is supposed there was a chain of them within sight of each other from the border of England." |
