| STANDING STONE [Corsecraig] | Standing Stone | Robert Cunninghame Esqr Mr James Orr Schoolmaster Revd [Reverend] J Cruikshank |
016 | The origin of this stone is obscure - from enquiries made nothing of a satisfactory nature can be elicited Mr Alexander Campbell Post office Saltcoats states that he believes it to have been erected to mark the Site of the Original farm Steading of Corsecraig which was at or near the object in question and which farm was occupied by his Grandfather but it is more than probable that the Stone was prior to that age and doubtless erected to mark or commemorate some particular event.- There is no local tradition or history relating to this Stone |

Parish of Stevenston -- County of Ayr
"Of simple memorial stones, examples might be cited in nearly every
Scottish parish. Nearly all are of the same character, differing in
nothing but relative size, and the varying outlines of their
unhewn masses. They have outlived the traditions of their rearers
and no inscription preserves to us the long-forgotten name" &c

Ordnance Survey - Ayr county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Ayr, which is in the south west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
